5AM is the after after party.

That strange, beautiful, delirious pocket of time where the night refuses to die — even though everyone in the room probably should’ve gone to bed hours ago.

The story goes like this:

A group of party kids stumble back from the club, still buzzing, still laughing, still convinced that the best part of the night hasn’t even happened yet. We end up at a friend’s loft — high ceilings, low inhibitions, lights dimmed, shoes long forgotten. I’m behind the decks. They want more. I give it to them.

The tunes are banging. Spirits are high. Reality is loosening its grip.
Then, right on cue: BANG BANG BANG.
The neighbour.
5AM’s unofficial hype man and anti-hero.

I turn it down…
then crank it back up…
then turn it down again when it hits me that these beautiful little rave-goblins need sleep. We all do. If we want to do this again tomorrow — or next week, or next life — someone has to be the adult in the room. Apparently, tonight, that’s me.

If you’ve never been at an after party at 5AM when a neighbour comes banging on the door demanding that you turn down the music, and you can’t quite comprehend why anyone would want music to be quieter… well… don’t listen to this mix from the beginning.

Instead, skip to about the 33-minute mark; it’s much safer there.

DJs live in that liminal space — the nonsense between keeping the party going and protecting the party people from themselves.

This mix lives there too.
