description: In 2023, my good friend Gabe asked me to pop by his studio while I was in Detroit for Movement. At the time he was working on a side project called AV Show. If you don’t know Gabriel Hall or his work, you’re missing out. Also known as Lightbender, Gabe is a VJ based out of Detroit. I recommend that you follow him on Instagram and pay specific attention to the projection mapping that he so skilfully orchestrates complimenting the soundscapes of various DJs in different cities every weekend. Have you seen what he did at The Pagoda in Shambhala? His work is stunning.
After partying nonstop alongside the Zombie Rave Squad both at Movement and then Tangent and then back again (lather, rinse, repeat) since the previous Friday, I rolled into Lightbender Studio on a Tuesday afternoon all bright eyed and bushy tailed, where Gabe gave me a tour of the studio and then a rundown of the AV Show project. Gabe has put in the work, so he has the good fortune of rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest players in the industry. Some of those had rolled through this very same studio to also throw down some tunes for the project.
Sadly, like many artistic endeavours taken on by full-time artists, this project has been shelved. I hope that one day it is restarted, but in the meantime, my mix is sitting here not been listened to so… I’m releasing the recording. Enjoy.
