55 tracks. 2 hours, 51 minutes and 11 seconds. Not a single play of Thriller.

Every Halloween, we hear the same songs. Thriller. Ghostbusters. Monster Mash. They’re fun, they’re familiar, and they’ve become as much a part of Halloween as carved pumpkins and questionable candy.

But I’ve always thought that there’s an enormous amount of music out there that feels like Halloween without actually being about Halloween.

Music that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Music that sounds like something lurking just beyond the reach of the light. Music that’s mysterious, unsettling, sinister, playful, or just plain weird.

So I went digging.

The result is Feels Like Halloween 01, a nearly three-hour journey through 55 tracks that I selected for one reason: every single one of them evokes something spooky.

There are horror movie soundtracks, of course, but also dubstep, ambient, techno, experimental electronics, drum and bass, and plenty of sounds that defy easy categorization. Artists like Djrum, Shackleton, Nicolas Jaar, Matthew Dear, Flying Lotus, Ben Frost, Loefah, and many others all find themselves haunting the same musical space.

Some of these tracks are genuinely terrifying. Others are strangely beautiful. Some have rhythms that might make you move, while others seem to exist entirely to make you uncomfortable.

And somehow, they all belong together.

A Soundtrack for Your Halloween

I didn’t make this to be a Halloween dance party.

I wanted to create something you could put on while handing out candy to trick-or-treaters, setting the atmosphere for a haunted house, carving pumpkins, or spending an evening with the lights turned down low.

Something that could fill a space with the feeling of Halloween without constantly demanding your attention.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t danceable moments. There are plenty. But I’ve deliberately kept the mix spacious, allowing the sounds to breathe and the atmosphere to develop.

It’s music that can exist in the background while you’re doing something else, but there’s also an entire journey waiting for anyone who wants to listen closely.

No Tricks. Just Treats.

As with all of my mixes, Feels Like Halloween 01 was recorded live, with each track mixed into the next to create one continuous experience.

No predictable Halloween anthems. No novelty songs. Just nearly three hours of music that captures all the strange, wonderful, unsettling feelings that make Halloween such a fantastic time of year.

Whether you’re welcoming trick-or-treaters, building a haunted house, or simply looking for something unusual to listen to on a dark October evening, I’ve got your soundtrack covered.

Turn down the lights. Turn up the speakers.

And whatever you do, don’t look behind you.
